"We did the Conversation Setup Session in January, and it is now April and we are still following the rhythm we set up that afternoon. My husband and I haven't spoken so clearly about household decisions in years. The facilitator was quiet and careful — she did not push us anywhere, just held the shape of the conversation."

"The Records Programme took longer than I expected — not because the sessions ran over, but because sorting through twenty years of household papers is genuinely a lot of work. Ravi was patient and organised. The folder we ended up with is something we actually use. My wife found our daughter's old identification card within two minutes when we needed it last month."

"We are in our eighth month of the Annual Programme. Having a quarterly conversation with the whole family — including our teenage children — about how the household is going has changed how we make decisions. It's not perfect every session, but it is ours. Sharifah Nadia is an excellent facilitator."

"I was not sure what to expect. A colleague recommended Familion and I thought it sounded more complicated than necessary. After one session, I understood what they actually do — it is much simpler and more practical than the description suggests. We now have a written record of our household decisions and a folder for our papers. Simple, but we had not done it before."

"The written summary after each session was what made the difference for us. We have tried to have household conversations before but they always dissolved into everyday disagreements. Having a record of what was said and what was decided — that was new. We returned to it twice between sessions."

"We enrolled in the Annual Programme in January. I appreciated that Familion was clear from the start about what they do and what they do not — no claims about outcomes, no advice given. Just a structure for our family's own conversations. That transparency was the reason we chose them."

Case Studies

Household stories, in more detail

Case Study 01 · Family Records Programme

A household whose papers were in four different rooms

The situation

A family of five in Petaling Jaya had been in their current home for fourteen years. Their household documents — identification papers, property documents, insurance records, family contacts — were scattered across a filing cabinet, a box in the storeroom, a desk drawer, and two folders on a shelf. Nobody in the household knew exactly what was kept where.

The three sessions

In the first session, the family gathered all their documents into one place and created a simple inventory. The second session was spent sorting and labelling — deciding together which categories mattered and how to name them. In the third session, the records folder was completed and a short maintenance rhythm was agreed upon.

Six weeks later

The family's records folder held fourteen categories of documents, all labelled and current. The family agreed to a 20-minute quarterly update to add new documents and remove old ones. Three months after the programme ended, all five documents needed for a property transaction were found within ten minutes.

"We knew we should have done this years ago. We just needed someone to sit with us through it."

Case Study 02 · Conversation Setup Session

A couple who kept postponing the same conversation

The situation

A couple in Bangsar had a list of household topics they had been meaning to discuss for over a year — including plans for aging parents, property maintenance decisions, and how to manage shared finances more clearly. Whenever they tried to begin, the conversation either stalled or became difficult and was set aside again.

The session

In two hours, the facilitator helped them name the topics they wanted to cover regularly, agree how often to set aside time for them, and create a simple one-page template for recording decisions. The facilitator offered no advice on any of the topics; the session was entirely about structure.

Four months later

The couple had held their household conversation four times. Two of the deferred topics had been resolved. The template remained the same as the one created in the session — simple and sufficient.

"The most useful thing was that the facilitator did not try to help us resolve anything. She just helped us make it easier to start."

Case Study 03 · Annual Conversation Programme

A multigenerational household finding a shared language

The situation

A three-generation household in Ampang — grandparents, parents, and two adult children — had never had a formal structure for household conversations. Decisions were made informally or not at all. Tensions occasionally arose because household members had different assumptions about arrangements that had never been discussed.

The year

The initial setup session established the household's preferred topics and a rhythm of quarterly conversations. Each quarterly session was facilitated by the same person, who by the third session was familiar enough with the household's patterns to hold the structure with minimal intervention. The annual review was used to update the household's written agreements and plan for the following year.

At year's end

The household had six written session records spanning twelve months. They had renewed for a second year — not because the programme was complicated, but because the quarterly rhythm had become something they wanted to continue.

"We all speak differently and want different things. The sessions gave us a place where those differences were part of the conversation, not an obstacle to it."
